Background
About Will Reichard
William “Will” Reichard was born on 9 January 2001 in Hoover, Alabama, and grew up in the Birmingham area before enrolling at the University of Alabama, where he was the Crimson Tide's placekicker from 2019 to 2023.
His college career is one of the most decorated in FBS history. Reichard finished as the NCAA Division I FBS all-time leading scorer with 547 career points, and he still holds Alabama's school records with 84 field goals made and 295 extra points converted. He went a perfect 98-for-98 on field goals and extra points in 2020 and was a second-team All-American that year. In his senior season, 2023, he set the single-season NCAA scoring record with 531 points, was named a first-team All-American and won the SEC's Special Teams Player of the Year award. He was also a two-time finalist for the Lou Groza Award, given annually to college football's top placekicker.
Minnesota selected Reichard in the sixth round, 203rd overall, of the 2024 NFL Draft, using a pick acquired in a trade with the New York Jets. He was the first kicker taken in that draft. His rookie season began close to perfect: he made his first 20 field-goal attempts of 2024 before a quad injury in Week 9 affected his accuracy over the season's final stretch. He finished 2024 at 24 of 30 on field goals (80.0%) and a perfect 38 of 38 on extra points across 13 games, having missed four games on Reserve/Injured, with eight field goals from 50-plus yards, then the second-most in a single season in franchise history. He also made his only field-goal attempt in Minnesota's 2024 Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
Reichard's second season, 2025, was the best of his young career. He made 33 of 35 field goals (94.3%) and all 31 of his extra-point tries for 130 points, leading the Vikings in scoring. He set a Vikings single-season record with 11 field goals of 50 yards or more, tying for the most in the NFL that year, and did not miss a single attempt inside 50 yards all season. In Week 3 against Cincinnati he kicked a 62-yard field goal, the longest in franchise history, and he became the first kicker in NFL history to make four field goals of at least 59 yards in one season. The performance earned him First-Team All-Pro honours for 2025, alongside long snapper Andrew DePaola's second-team recognition.
Minnesota re-signed Reichard on August 8, and the club's depth chart lists him as the outright starter at kicker heading into 2026, with no listed backup.
