Series overview

A rivalry built in the postseason

The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles have never shared a division, so most of their history has been written a game or two at a time in the regular season. What sets the rivalry apart is the playoffs: the two teams have met four times in the postseason, and Philadelphia has won every single one, including two NFC Championship Games, in the 1980 and 2017 seasons.

Away from the playoffs, the series is close to even and Minnesota has actually won more regular-season meetings than Philadelphia. That split, an Eagles team that has owned the biggest games and a Vikings team that has usually held its own the rest of the time, is the throughline of this matchup.

Philadelphia is not on Minnesota's confirmed 2026 regular-season schedule. This page is a historical and statistical reference, not a preview of an upcoming game.

Where the rivalry lives

Four playoff meetings, four Eagles wins

Minnesota has never beaten Philadelphia in the postseason. Two of the four losses came in NFC Championship Games, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

Jan 3, 1981NFC Divisional · Veterans Stadium

Eagles 31, Vikings 16

Minnesota built a 14-0 first-half lead on a Tommy Kramer touchdown pass to Sammy White and a Ted Brown rushing score, but Philadelphia rallied behind Ron Jaworski and Wilbert Montgomery, who scored two second-half rushing touchdowns. Kramer threw five interceptions as the Eagles advanced to their first Super Bowl, a loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Jan 16, 2005NFC Divisional · Lincoln Financial Field

Eagles 27, Vikings 14

Donovan McNabb threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns, a 20-yard bootleg run and a 34-yard strike to Terrell Owens, to send Philadelphia to the NFC Championship Game. Daunte Culpepper threw for 316 yards but was intercepted twice, and a fumble stripped by Mark Simoneau at the goal line ended one Minnesota scoring chance.

Jan 4, 2009NFC Wild Card · Metrodome

Eagles 26, Vikings 14

Philadelphia backed into the playoffs at 9-6-1 and upset the favoured Vikings on their own field. Adrian Peterson rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns, but Donovan McNabb threw for 300 yards and Brian Westbrook broke a 71-yard touchdown catch-and-run in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Jan 21, 2018NFC Championship · Lincoln Financial Field

Eagles 38, Vikings 7

The most lopsided game in the series. Backup quarterback Nick Foles, starting for the injured Carson Wentz, threw three touchdown passes, and cornerback Patrick Robinson returned an interception 50 yards for a score. Philadelphia advanced to, and won, Super Bowl LII, denying Minnesota a bid to become the first team to play a Super Bowl in its own stadium.

A note on this page

What this page leaves out, and why

This page does not include a Next Meeting card. Philadelphia is not on Minnesota's confirmed 2026 regular-season schedule, so there is no upcoming date, kickoff time or venue to report.

It also does not include a current-season team statistics comparison (points per game, total yards, turnovers) or a current-roster passing, rushing and receiving stat comparison. Minnesota opened the 2026 season with a 39-22 home win over Green Bay on September 13, but one game is not a meaningful season sample, so current-season team comparisons will be more useful as the season progresses. Rather than draw conclusions from a single week, those sections are left out; see the standings and the Week 1 recap and box score for the latest.

For the same reason, there is no game-week timeline (week-of, game day, postgame) tied to an upcoming matchup. The playoff history and previous meetings above instead cover the two teams' actual, documented games.
